Mr. Merten is an Associate at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP's Sacramento office. His practice focuses on advising clients on an array of state and local tax issues, from planning and compliance to controversy and litigation. He advocates for clients before administrative bodies, and trial and appellate courts. He counsels on a full range of tax types, including sales and use, income and franchise taxes, as well as key related issues including apportionment, nexus, gross receipts, business and nonbusiness income, penalties, deductions and credits. He is a member of the California state bar.
